About the Construction
Throughout 2014 until the full site delivery obtained by DHMI on May 1, 2015, we carried out earthwork design activities on the construction site with temporary permits. We performed ground studies with approximately 600 drilling operations, and more than 1,600 cone penetration experiments. Excavation and leveling activities carried out so far have resulted in approximately 1.5 million m3 earthmoving.
The airport will have three terminals, six runways, and annual capacity of up to 200 million passengers.
The first phase will include construction of three independent parallel runways, taxiways, apron, terminal building, air traffic, communication and meteorology systems, plus other service buildings.
The first terminal will be the biggest terminal building under one roof, extending over an area of 1.3 million m2 and initially serving 90 million passengers per year.
We plan to raise the capacity to 150 million passengers with additional terminals and runways in the project’s later phases. We anticipate an expansion of this capacity up to 200 million passengers in the long term, and so we make our plans accordingly.
We have built the largest machinery park in Turkey with an investment worthy of €300 million. We are carrying out the construction of the Istanbul New Airport according to plan on three different construction sites using 822 high-capacity machines and 2200 high-tonnage trucks well designed for construction.
When counting sub-contracted employees, total of 23.000 persons work on the site. 1.500 white-collar employees including managers and engineers.
